8 Things I Didn’t Know Before My C-Section

  1. It’s a REAL surgery. I did not realize how intense of a surgical procedure it actually was. The number of layers the doctor has to cut through is kind of wild.
  2. I was able to feel. So, I could not feel cutting or any pain. But I could feel tugging as the doctor was going in and getting my baby. Which is so, so weird to feel – yet not?!
  3. I had to be alone for the spinal, my husband was not allowed in so in that moment being alone with just the nurses and anesthesiologist was a little scary. And you know it’s about to happen – you’re about to meet your baby.
  4. Your lady parts are all very much intact with no pain down there. Though you do still bleed (generally not as much)
  5. I do not feel like I “missed out” on anything. I thought I would, but I never felt that way. I didn’t push but I totally gave birth. It was not any less magical.
  6. IT IS FAST! From the time the Doctor started till I got to meet my baby was super quick. I’d say around 10-15 minutes.
  7. I did not have any issues with milk supply. I feared my breast-feeding journey before it even started because I heard some horror stories. But that could happen with anyone no matter how you give birth.  I produced plenty.
  8. Everyone is TOTALLY different, so take this for what it is. I was worried about my recovery; I heard some horror stories. But to be honest – mine was fairly simple. Of course, recovering from a big surgery will take some time and there will be some pain. I was up and moving lots just days after my C-section. (Also, it REALLY helps even if you don’t want to, to walk around)

So that was a quick break down of some things that were heavy on mind. There’s so much more but that’s for another day, another blog post! Basically I’m just here to say if you are going to get a C-section YOU GOT THIS!  And congratulations on the newest member of your family. Whether it’s planned or not, every story is different and special. It’s all beautiful and messy at the same time. You’re one bad ass mama and are going to do great. Don’t listen to the horror stories. Take care of yourself, take the pain medication, and get moving (but don’t push yourself). Soak in the newborn bliss because it goes so terribly fast!
